DECHS began implementing AVID strategies in Fall 2021. We are excited that our students have been using strategies to become successful in their high school and college classes. We are the first school in Duplin County to be considered an AVID school.

So far in AVID, our freshmen have worked on study skills and goal setting. AVID students were able to work backwards from:

  • exploring their future careers
  • learning the type of education or training needed for those careers
  • researching the GPA, ACT, SAT, ASVAB score needed for placement in their chosen school
  • discussing things they need to do in their high school and JSCC classes to complete work successfully
